André Hart
André Hart is a Bay Area Artist. At age 3, he began to draw incessantly, rapidly progressing with his talent through his boyhood years. At age 20 Mr. Hart has thoroughly submerged himself in his work. Being an artist is his whole life. When questioned of inspiration and messages within his paintings and poetry, his answers are laced with weariness. The mystique behind where he evolves from and what he believes in, is often clouded: "I am nothing but a painter, a vagabond of the canvas, in which my revelations are exposed to you through my desolate and poetic stories, if you seek to define them." André Hart is motivated and driven by an intrinsic passion. Whether he verbalizes it or not, one only needs to experience his work to understand.

ArtCar Fest

ArtCar Fest will start celebrating its 15th year at SubZero in San Jose this year.

ArtCar Fest is a festival for and about ArtCars, which are licensed, registered and insured vehicles that an artist has permanently altered in an artistic fashion. These are NOT parade floats - the unique aspect of our medium is that we bring art into the world every day as we drive our vehicles to work, to the store, and on the highways. ArtCar Fest is the only festival in the world that focuses exclusively on this medium, and the only one founded and run by ArtCar artists.

Art Alive Gallery by Trina Merry
San Jose bodypainter Trina Merry pairs up with a full creative team, led by head stylist Sandra Moreno, to bring you a truly modern exhibit. Watch as the human body is transformed into a living canvas in a performance that is sure to raise eyebrows & wow all of your senses. This is a rotating gallery which will feature some of San Jose's top models, dancers, and street performers as living, breathing works of art in motion!

Trina considers herself to be a conceptual visual artist as well as a performance artist. She thinks every body is beautiful. "None of us are "perfect" and I find the way each person is created is a beautiful design. I fell in love, not only with the way paint feels & looks on the already beautiful human form, but also with the process: the people I meet, their personal stories, self-image assessments & the medium itself, which is temporary & in the moment. Nothing lasts- we are in a constant state of change, no matter how much we resist it. Bodypainting reminds me of this- life is short, always moving, & it's important to embrace the beauty & people in your life in that moment. The bodypaint will be washed off, the people will move on, but that elevated moment & connection (a form of love) is what's living for," ~Trina Merry.

"Do-It-Yourself is a core concept of the craft beer community. On the homebrew level, nothing illustrates this more than the seemingly endless variety of brewing set-ups homebrewers across the country have built for themselves to solve an issue they were having. Even in my own garage, the awkwardly coiled line of copper tubing was my DIY attempt at making my own immersion cooler. It works, by the way."

"On the professional level, DIY pretty much sustained the craft beer industry in its nascent stage. The natural pairing of craft beer with SubZERO fest was not a question of if but of when." Peter Estaniel, Better Beer Blog

Korrupt Label
Born in Thailand and raised with a punk rock ethos and DIY mentality, Henry Miyoshi of Korrupt Label creates deconstructed, highly detailed t-shirts and hoodies layered with text, images and patches proudly self made in West Oakland, California.

Refuting technology and Photoshop, Henry prefers to use copy machines to size his images and relies on old fashioned collage and paste ups to create new images and screens for printing. Using multiple screens on the back and front of his shirts, he intricately layers text and images to create a unique personal narrative. Keeping with his deconstructionist aesthetic, he recalls his past of sewing punk rock t-shirts and pants with dental floss by cutting apart his shirts and re-stitching them back together again. Patches that have been tea dyed and screen printed are often sewn on to the shirts ever increasing the layering effect of his wearable works of art. Imagery of bugs reflect his childhood exotic bug collection in Thailand.

Matthew Goodheart
A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, pianist and composer Matthew Goodheart has been working professionally since the age of 17. As an improviser, he has performed internationally, working and recording most notably with Wadada Leo Smith, Cecil Taylor, Fred Frith, Gianni Gebbia, Pauline Oliveros, and Glenn Spearman. His compositions and sound installations have been performed and featured in festivals throughout the US and Europe. He has published several articles, released numerous CD's, and founded the online, artist run recording label Evolving Door Music. He is presently an advanced Ph.D. candidate in Music Composition at the University of California at Berkeley.

Computer Controlled Metal Percussion Small transducers (speakers) are attached to the surfaces of cymbals and gongs, which are then controlled via a computer. Each individual cymbal or gong has its harmonic spectrum mapped out. The computer can isolate these individual frequencies and feed them back into the instrument, causing it to resonate. Additionally, recordings of the instrument being played are also manipulated through variety of means, such as time stretching, playing backwards, filtering, and other means. When these complex sounds are then played back through the transducers, the instruments resonate in unusual ways. While the sound has electronic origins, what is heard is entirely acoustic, wrought from the unique properties of the gongs and cymbals. This ongoing project has been used in improvised performances, chamber music, and sound installations.

The Cardboard House by Lacey Bryant
Standing over 6 feet high and made primarily from cardboard and other scavenged materials, the Cardboard House is a diorama on steroids.  This is not your ordinary dollhouse.  The  tidy, wallpapered interior gives way to flights of imagination, trees and vines burst from the floors, ponds arise from leaky sinks and the inhabitants of this over-sized estate seem to be outgrowing the world they have created.

The South Bay Music Swap
The South Bay Music Swap is currently a bi-monthly congregation in the Southern region of the San Francisco Bay Area for underground-minded people of all types to bring forth their best music, items and collectibles to sell to the public. Events in the past have brought vendors of music (including vinyl, cassettes & CDs), gear+instruments, art, clothing, toys and food together with collectors and art enthusiasts in a sunny, industrial outdoor venue, located just outside of Downtown San Jose. One of this event's highlights includes not only the finding of rare and hard-to-find music and items, but live music performances by local artists and DJs, setting a fun, exciting mood for the day's trading activities.

Thingamajigs
Thingamajigs was founded as an art project in 1997 at Mills College, Oakland California. Created by Edward Schocker and Dylan Bolles, the project was originally conceived as a forum for composers/performers who develop new and unique ways of producing sound. The project soon broke out of the college environment and into an annual music festival called Music for People & Thingamajigs.

In 2004 a permanent group of organizers and advisors was created. The essential mission Thingamajigs is to develop and nurture the exploration of alternate materials and methods of creating sound, as well as promote collaborative efforts with other artistic disciplines.
